Sip Veranda on Highland’s cocktail that is getting national press.

One of my favorite bars in town is at the Veranda on Highland. If Ernest Hemingway were still living and were in town, I expect that he would “find himself” here.

In fact, can still hang out with Hemingway here as a bust statue of Hemingway looks over the bar. And who better to bartend here than an English degreed bartender, Steva Casey? Casey and her Night of Joy cocktail were recently featured in the New York Post. The drink is named for the New Orleans nightclub in the Pulitzer prize-winning novel A Confederacy of Dunces.

The drink is burgundy in color. It is served in a cordial glass for an aromatic presentation, with a slice of lemon peel floating in the glass. The captivating concoction is a combination of apertifs—Cocchi Rosa and Campari—celery bitters, a bit of sparkling Grenelle Rosé, and Talisker Rinse for a hint of smoke. Sip slowly for an enjoyable night.
