Chef James Boyce and his wife and partner, Suzan, added the highly anticipated addition to the Boyce Restaurant Concepts in Birmingham, Ala., Galley & Garden, in 2014.
The term “Galley” refers to the open kitchen which will be visible from the dining room, allowing guests to get a firsthand look at creativity behind Chef Boyce’s cuisine. The inviting restaurant will have a beautifully manicured garden, creating a memorable experience for all guests.
Galley and Garden is located in what was once The Merritt House. Built in 1908, The Merritt House was an elegant home with expansive porches that graced Highland Avenue in the early 20th century. Galley and Garden intends to enhance the grandeur of the original home with modern Southern touches.
Galley and Garden, featuring modern American-French cuisine with Southern influences, showcases a variety of signature dishes such as: Grilled Romaine with Ruby Red Prawns; Herb-Crusted King Salmon, field pea succotash, watercress, caviar butter; Maine Lobster Tail, butter braised cabbage, sauce coral and Bourbon and Honey Cured Duck Breast, collards and charred corn.
Boyce has consistently accrued the industry’s top awards, accolades and respect throughout his career. He has appeared numerous times on NBC’s “The Today Show” and was featured on the Travel Channel’s “Epicurious TV;” the PBS television series “How To Cook Everything: Bittman Takes On America’s Chefs;” and PBS’s “At The Chef’s Table;” as well as in numerous publications, among them: Bon Appétit, Food & Wine, Wine Spectator, Cooking Light, Garden and Gun, House Beautiful, The Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, Men’s Health, Runner’s World, Cookie, Coastal Living, Sunset, Riviera, Relish, Food Arts and Nation’s Restaurant News. He has also had the honor of cooking at the James Beard House in New York City.
