FoodBar

George McMillian

It was at the knees of his mother and both of his grandmothers, where Chef George McMillian first learned to stir the pot, and found his passion for cooking. After graduating Mountain Brook High School and attending Auburn University, he graduated from culinary school at Culinard. Here he later worked teaching cooking classes. Chef McMillian’s background also includes cooking in Birmingham restaurant kitchens, owning a partnership in a local restaurant, and a stint as a private chef.

In 2013 Chef McMillian opened his own, farm to table restaurant, FoodBar in the Cahaba Heights neighborhood of Vestavia Hills. Chef McMillian’s style is Southern. And he is an avid outdoorsman. Thus, it comes natural to McMillian to get his hands in the dirt, working closely with local farmers and food purveyors, to hand select food and ingredients for FoodBar’s kitchen. Also incorporated into FoodBar’s frequently changing, seasonal menu are regional seafood, meat, fowl, and game.

FoodBar’s fare is not pretentious, just delicious.
