Congratulations to Frank and Pardis Stitt, and the team at Highlands Bar and Grill once again! Highlands Bar and Grill has been named Nominee for James Beard Foundation Awards' Outstanding Restaurant 2018 and its pastry chef, Dolester Miles named Nominee for Outstanding Pastry Chef 2018. This is an outstanding, yet well-deserved achievement for both.
Highlands Bar and Grill has been named a nominee (one of five finalist) for Outstanding Restaurant for the past nine consecutive years, which makes 2018 nomination the 10th. For Miles it is her third year as semi-finalist, and she was a nominee the past two years, making 2018 her third year as a nominee.
The 2018 James Beard Awards Gala will be held on Monday, May 7, at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. It is my tradition on the night of the awards to live stream, watching while nibbling on popcorn and sipping Champagne—as I have done every year since live stream was invented. Prior to that I had to keep up on Twitter. Each year I think, “This has to be the year!” only to be disappointed again, and again. Afterwards, I rant and rave that the same cities (New York, New Orleans, Chicago) seem to always win. But somehow by the time another year rolls around, I get my hopes up again...
