Bamboo on 2nd is an Asian fusion and sushi restaurant located at 2212 2nd Avenue North in downtown Birmingham. Crisp white, metal chairs and bold orange upholstery brighten the space below a burlap draped, wooden ceiling. The main bar flanks one exposed brick wall. A banquette lines the other wall, with bamboo lights hanging above. And at the far end of the space is the sushi bar. In one front window is a community table and the other has bar seating lining the space.
Owners Sam Fallaw and Bernie Smith are seasoned restauranteurs, bringing 25 years of experience to Bamboo on 2nd. Joining Fallaw and Smith at Bamboo on 2nd is executive chef, Abhi Sainju, a native of Nepal, who previously operated the very popular Everest Sushi catering.
Bamboo on 2nd offers house specialties, such as momos, ramen bowl, thukpa, and vegetarian thukpa bowl. The small plates menu includes grilled edamame, Bangkok chicken and whole romaine, lumpia Filipino egg roll, fried green beans, Kathmandu fried chicken, tuna tataki, miso soup. Bamboo skewers include chicken, beef, shrimp and pork belly. Salads include spicy Caesar, Thai chicken, spicy steak, and spicy pork. There are a variety of Asian sandwiches. And Bamboo on 2nd offers an expansive menu of sushi rolls, which are all rolled to order.
Bamboo on 2nd offers wine by the glass and the bottle, beer on tap, in cans and in bottles, sake on tap and by the bottle, cocktails and a tea pot menu.
