Big Beautiful Berries

Petals from the Past, located in Jemison, Alabama, grows these berries (along with wonderful blackberries), and this year there was a bumper crop. I was ready and waiting when they arrived at Tria Market. They are beautiful in a fruit salad, with cheese, in cereal--and best of all alone right out of the plastic box. Tria Market finds fresh uses for the berries in their dessert of Chilton County Peaches with Alabama Honey and Goat Cheese.

Chilton County Peaches With Alabama Honey And Goat Cheese
Ingredients:
2 large ripe Chilton County peaches, halved and pitted
3 oz of Belle Chevre goat cheese
2 tablespoons of Over the Mountain Honey
10 fresh Petals of the Past blueberries or blackberries
1 teaspoon of cinnamon

Procedure:
Drizzle cut side of peach with honey and grill over medium high flame until golden, about five minutes. Serve grilled side up, topped with crumbled goat cheese and blueberries. Serves four.

Petals from the Past blackberry fields are open in the month of June for blackberry picking. They also host a Blue and Blackberry Festival each June. And although the harvest season for blueberries over, the taste of summer has been preserved in eight ounce jars of Petal's of the Past Blackberry Jam, available in their catalog on their website at http://www.petalsfromthepast.com/.
