History
As a wine writer contributing to local, national and international publications, including Wine Spectator, Jan Walsh envisioned the Internet as a platform to syndicate her local wine calendar and wine column, which she achieved with the launch of BirminghamWine.com in 2006. She then recognized a larger opportunity and need to syndicate her restaurant columns and launch an online restaurant directory of content rich, multi page restaurant profiles, menus, and food events. With that vision, Walsh founded BirminghamRestaurants.com March 1, 2007. The website quickly became the city’s favorite dining guide of Birmingham metro’s best restaurants. It was voted “Best Local Website” in Birmingham magazine’s “Best of Birmingham,” three months after it launched in 2007. Through the years that followed, the website was updated daily with new content and each year with new functionalities.
Walsh used this content rich, multi page profile model for weddings when she launched BirminghamBrides.com in 2010.
In 2010 Walsh Websites, LLC launched
DineDaily.com, as a partner site to BirminghamRestaurants.com. Its daily e-newsletter delivers today’s menus to subscribers’ inboxes, by linking back to DineDaily.com for each day’s Daily Specials and Daily Deals.
In 2011 BirminghamRestaurants.com launched Version 2 of the website with many added features, including a cuisine bar, culinary critiques, and foodie profiles.
Restaurants Vertical Expansion
In 2011 Walsh launched MontgomeryRestaurants.com. And in Summer 2013 she plans to launch GulfCoastRestaurants.com, "Dining Guide of the Gulf Coasts' Best Restaurants,"using the same successful model.
Other Verticals
Walsh is also the Founder of BirminghamDoctors.com, which she sold before its launch in 2009. As the founder of this website, she was named the "Healthcare Innovator of the Year" for 2009 by the Birmingham Business Journal in their Health Care Heroes Awards.
In 2011-2012 the legal vertical based on this same model as restaurants, weddings and medical verticals launched. For the legal vertical, Walsh partnered with the Alabama State Bar to provide AlabamaLawyers.org as a member benefit to all Alabama State Bar Members, and with other local legal associations in BirminghamLawyers.com, HuntsvilleLawyers.com, MobileLawyers.com, and MontgomeryLawyers.co.
